I begin my work with a ritual of soaking and stretching my watercolor paper. Some artists skip this step. For me stretching the paper is a quiet, rhythmic process that clears my mind, leaving it like a blank sheet of paper, full of potential, ready for that first splash of water and pigment that sets everything in motion. I build form and value with many layers of color. Sometimes I scrub pigment off, lifting out areas to sculpt forms and create more contrast. I love the texture that lifting out paint creates. I spend hours working on each painting reveling in every nuance. I hope you can enjoy them fully, too.
